If you are like me, the best way to enjoy a cozy book or game is with a warm cup of coffee or tea. Over the years, I have tested numerous coffee and tea brands, pairing different tasting profiles with my favorite books and games for the perfect fit. To celebrate this journey, I have decided to share some of these special pairings here on Bonus Action with Sip & Flip, starting with my current obsession: Fresh Roasted Coffee and Pokopia.
Pokémon Pokopia was released on March 5, 2026, and is one of the best games to come from the franchise in years. I have delighted in the cozy exploration, adorable city building, and thoughtful puzzle solving that are offered in the dozens of hours of gameplay available for the base game. It’s one of those games that is perfect for the early spring weather.
However, due to my life as a parent, the vast majority of my time with Pokopia has been after my son is in bed. Because Pokopia makes me crave blankets and the sanctuary of my sofa at such a late hour, I’ve fallen asleep on my Switch more than a few times since the game launched.
To combat this, I started making a small cup of coffee to go with my Pokopia playthrough. This is how I ended up falling in love with Fresh Roasted Coffee.
Fresh Roasted Coffee Offers Incredible Coffee I can Actually Afford

For the first part of this breakdown, I want to give an explanation of the drink we are pairing and why it is so special. I am an avid and picky coffee drinker. To those out there strong enough to handle the Foldgers, I applaud you. However, I am a terrible coffee snob with a delicate palate and a deep, horrible love of light roasts.
Unfortunately, coffee has become almost prohibitively expensive in the past few years, making my treasured coffee ritual less and less reasonable to maintain.
Around the time Pokopia came out, we were lucky enough to partner with Fresh Roasted Coffee for a taste test that has altered how we get our caffeine fix. Bonus Action was provided with tasting samples of the Peru Single Origin Organic, Guatemala Single Origin Organic, and Black Knight Artisan Blend.
After months of attempting to find a decent grocery store coffee for less than sixteen dollars a pound, I was completely blown away by Fresh Roasted. The Peru has a strong, clean flavor with notes of cinnamon and caramel and a bright, citrus finish. It’s the sort of bold-bodied coffee that stays on the tongue and really feels like that quintessential “cup of coffee” I am always looking for. It’s not one I can drink black, but with a bit of non-dairy creamer in there and a smidge of sugar, the quality of the roast is stunning. You don’t want to cover it up with flavored creamers, because you’ll miss out on how delicate and lovely the overall taste is.
My favorite of the samples was the Guatemala Huehuetenango by a long shot. I am a huge fan of mild-bodied coffee, and this roast delivers a beautifully delicate, chocolatey coffee that is refreshing to drink and doesn’t require any additions. My favorite way to have it is with a spoonful of sugar to bring out the sweetness of the orange and chocolate. It’s smooth, bright, and brilliant.
Now, this is where the story takes a hilarious turn. I am not much of a Dark Coffee fan. If you are, you are going to love the Black Knight blend. It’s sharp, bold, and will wake you right up. I, however, am not strong enough to take this bold-bodied brew. I withered and blew away on the first sip.
Because of this, I had no choice but to go to the Fresh Roasted website and order more coffee. And my hand slipped, so now I am subscribed for monthly deliveries because there are dozens of coffee blends I need to try. So, if you love a dark roast, go for the Black Knight. However, if you love light roast as much as I do, you absolutely must try the Brazil or the White Knight.

The White Knight is smooth, clean, and sharp. It has the slight taste of stone fruit, and this incredible cocoa richness that cuts the grassy taste some light roasts struggle with. The Brazil is likely going to be one of my regular go-to roasts with a light flavor, mild body, and blackberry tasting notes. It’s so smooth and lovely. I can’t say enough good things about it.
We also got a Maple Creme to try, and I will say that the flavored options are not my personal favorite. The flavoring on these types of coffees is always a bit bitter, and takes away from the actual tasting notes of the roasts. That said, hats off to Fresh Roasted for offering flavored coffee in whole bean. I rarely see specialty flavors in whole bean, and if you are a coffee drinker, grinding your own coffee is critical to getting the best taste you can from a roast. Pre-ground just doesn’t hold up, and that is where that cardboard flavor creeps in. All the freshness of the grind vanishes, lost on the store shelf it sits on.
So, the key takeaways here are that Fresh Roasted Coffee is an incredible company that offers subscribers premium whole bean roasts at a fraction of grocery store prices. It’s fresh, the selection is fantastic, and there are options for every type of coffee lover. As someone who has already gotten two bulk orders from the website, I don’t see myself changing to anything else in the near future.
The Best Fresh Roasted Coffee For Pokopia

For me, my memories of playing Pokopia for the first time will always be accompanied by that hot cup of Guatemala I got to enjoy each time I turned my switch on. There is something wonderful about prepping to play a good game with a hot cup of coffee.
I will likely always have a bag or two of these beans on hand specifically for gaming, as well as the regular morning coffee that we always make at my house. The scent of Fresh Roasted screams “cozy game night,” and makes sure that I stay awake long enough to actually jump in and spend some time exploring and building before I crash out.
Fresh Roasted is particularly well-suited to Pokopia, as players can pick a different roast for each of the biomes they get to explore. My current recommendations are as follows:
- Withered Wasteland – Peru Single Origin
- Bleak Beach – 100% Hawaiian Kona
- Rocky Ridges – Guatemala Huehuetenango Single Origin
- Sparkling Skylands – Brazil Portal Do Cerrado Minas Gerais Single Origin
- Pallet Town – White Knight Artisan Blend
There really isn’t a wrong choice with Fresh Roasted, but the above are our current top picks. This coffee will pair amazingly with most games and books, but we specifically recommend giving it a try alongside Pokopia.
