That’s right, it’s finally worth getting Hitman World of Assassination for Nintendo Switch 2 because almost all of your unlocks will carry across. It also means you can keep that Freelancer run going no matter what you’ve got on in the week.
I’ve always loved the Hitman series, but with Hitman 2016, IO Interactive really reinvented the wheel. Three games and a decade later, Hitman World of Assassination is the best game the franchise has ever seen, and it’s about to get a feature that makes it unbeatable.
Take Agent 47 Anywhere When Cross-Progression Drops In February 2026
On February 3, 2026, Hitman World of Assassination will finally have full cross-progression across every platform. The only thing holding me back from picking the Switch 2 version up was the fact that I’d need to start my profile from scratch, which I don’t want to do when I’ve got 200 hours of unlocks on my PlayStation profile.
Thankfully, IO Interactive has at last made the game even better value for money by bringing this feature to the table. It makes it possible to continue playing the game anywhere with all your unlocks from the levels in the game, Freelancer mode, Elusive Targets, and all the content you don’t have to pay extra for.
That’s the only catch with this cross-progression situation, and it’s not really a catch; it’s legality. You can’t carry across unlocks and progress from DLC you’ve purchased in a different ecosystem. This is all because of the way payment and licensing work between Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, but it really shouldn’t impact your life too much.
For me, I simply want to know that I can play on PS5 and have a great time, and then play on Switch 2 when I’m travelling and keep adding to my main profile. Freelancer mode is packed with near-endless weapons and outfits to unlock, and your level can only keep going higher. I love logging in and bashing out a few quick assassinations or sitting there for an hour agonizing over just one.
The Switch 2 is the perfect portable platform for Hitman World of Assassination (and FF7 Remake Intergrade). It’s a colossal game that you’ll never grow tired of, and you can hold it in your hands while on the beach, in a hotel, or on the train on the way to work.
Many games have cross-progression these days, but very few developers put the effort in to add it to a 10-year-old game like IO Interactive has. It extends the game’s life and, more importantly, makes it well worth buying across multiple platforms, because you’re going to get more than your money’s worth when you know you can pile hundreds more hours into the game and have it all count towards that same account.
