Trying out a new controller brand is always an exciting experience. However, few controllers can match the quality, style, and design of FUNLAB’s Firefly Pro Wireless Switch Controller and Luminous Joy-Pad controllers. This controller review has been one of the most amazing experiences, and I can’t wait to break down why every gamer needs one of these accessories.
FUNLAB has done something neither Hori nor PowerA currently has accomplished – fully detachable controllers that operate like standard Joy-Cons. With the splash of color added by vibrant RGB backlighting and powerful rumble capabilities, they are incredible to use. The Firefly Pro Controller offers the same RGB lighting, as well as an ergonomic hand fit and quality weight, challenging the best wireless controllers on the market.

The Firefly Pro Wireless Controller Is Perfect

The FUNLAB Firefly Pro Controller is an epic design in every aspect. The controller is large, matching the PowerA Enhanced Wireless footprint. It has excellent weight, allowing it to fit into players’ hands comfortably. The buttons on the interface are all perfectly spaced and are ideal for those with long fingers. Players can change out the D-Pad if they don’t like the circular style, offering two different options right out of the box.
The buttons on the controller are all snappy and crisp, and the analog responds wonderfully. I tested the controller on 20 hours of Little Kitty, Big City for PC, and 15 hours on Apico for the Nintendo Switch and ran into no issues with response time, programming, or build.
The controller has two programmable buttons on the underside of the hand grips, and setting controls for the strength of the rumble and brightness of the RGB backlighting can be found there as well.
The RGB backlighting is absolutely beautiful. We tested the “Miner” edition of the Firefly, and the display is perfect for fans of The Legend of Zelda. The default color of teal can be changed, allowing an additional level of customization.
I love this controller. I love the way it sits in my hands, the feel of the textured finish, and the RGB backlight. My only complaint is that the buttons don’t have backlights. I want to sit in the dark like a monster to appreciate the RGB, and it would be so nice to see the X, A, B, Y buttons without having to bring it right up to my face.
FUNLAB’s Luminous Wireless Joy-Pad is Better Than Joy-Cons

I have wanted a pair of fully functional, ergonomic controllers for my Nintendo Switch since I first bought it in 2018. Standard Joy-Cons are too small for my hands, but the Hori and PowerA, while very cute, don’t offer Joy-Con alternatives that work when detached from the console.
Thankfully, FUNLAB has provided a solution for those of us who need hand support, but also long for functionality. The Luminous Wireless Joy-Pad Controllers are my constant companions, and I will never play without them again.
The first thing to note about the Luminous controllers is their size and shape. They match the pro grip of Hori’s Split Pad Pro, but with a smoother design. The controllers are heavy, and the buttons are spread at just the right distance for quick combos and reactions. The programmable buttons on the back of the controller are fixed perfectly for easy, intuitive use.
These are the controllers hard-core players need. They have all the luxury of a Pro Controller, but the portability of Joy-Cons. You can do epic combos easily anywhere you go, in handheld or tabletop setups.
The RGB backlight on the Luminous is just as stunning as the Firefly. Light rings surround every button, illuminating them perfectly in dark rooms. Additionally, players can select two different colors to be active at the same time, so my Zonaite controllers are teal on top and purple on the edge.
To make these even better, the Luminous controllers can be hooked to an additional accessory called a Lumingrip. The Ultrahand version turns the Joy-pad into a full controller, acting as both a power bank and an expander. The display on the grip fills the gap in the RGB image, making it beautiful to look at. The footprint of the Lumingrip setup is slightly larger than the Firefly, and I love it. Long-fingered gamers won’t get hand cramps with this stunning combination.
I have no changes I’d want to make with the Luminous controllers. I love them and want everyone to have a set.
Final Score – 10/10
It is so rare to find controllers that do it all. The Firefly is a brilliant pro option, and the Luminous is a revolutionary addition to the Nintendo Switch that elevates the entire gaming experience. I am in love with the designs and blown away by the thoughtfulness of both controllers. Anyone who buys these will be delighted, and the many different styles available allow players to mix and match with their favorite franchises.
If you are looking to get a new controller, give a set as a gift, or invest in new accessory options, I would highly encourage you to give FUNLAB’s Luminous and Firefly controllers a try.
