Since its release, Baldur’s Gate 3 has seen its fair share of exciting patches and updates. From making kissing better to squashing bugs, the Larian team continues to put work into improving the fan-favorite game.
The next major patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming in September, but Larian is already sharing details because it’s going to be a big one for fans.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 To Bring Official Modding Toolkit
Via X, @baldursgate3 shared their latest Community Update, featuring all the details about September’s Patch:
The big news here is that Patch 7 will add an official modding toolkit, making it even easier for fans to tweak the game to their personal preferences. The toolkit will feature an editor for creating mods & the ability to upload them directly to the mod.io servers, where other players can use them once they’ve passed through a moderation process.
The upcoming BG3 modding kit will go through two phases of testing before it’s ready for wider release, which is part of why we’ve got so long to wait for this latest patch.
The initial phase, a closed alpha test period, opens on June 3 and will feature a small set of mod authors who’ll do their best to break the game with their wild ideas. More modders will join the closed alpha as the testing phase goes on.
In July, Larian will invite more players to a closed beta so they can test out all the new mods. Details on how to join the closed beta haven’t been shared just yet but should be available closer to the date.
While the closed beta appears to be for PC players only, Larian’s Steam update regarding the patch says that players on other consoles should eventually have access to some select BG3 mods. However, console players will not be able to design mods due to platform limitations.
In addition to the modding toolkit, Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 will also add more evil endings for the game, as well as bug fixes and quality life improvements. So while the mod toolkit is the big news here, there’s something to look forward to even for fans who prefer an unaltered BG3 experience.
