After months of waiting and plenty of careful teasers and hints from developers, Final Fantasy VII Revelation was finally confirmed in a reveal trailer at the end of the Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase. The news came as the final announcement of the showcase and confirmed exciting narrative details as well as critical release information.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the third and final installment of the Remake series, which has reimagined the original Final Fantasy VII. While much of the narrative has remained the same as the ’90s release, specific changes have provided new mysteries to solve while exploring the updated, iconic locations of the world.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second chapter of the Remake saga, will be released in the spring of 2024. The title was recently ported to PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox, allowing fans the opportunity to enjoy the story on multiple platforms. Historically, Final Fantasy games have been Sony-exclusive upon launch. However, there is exciting news for Revelation, as it was confirmed that the final chapter will be released across PlayStation 5, Xbox X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC simultaneously.
Final Fantasy VII Release Window & Announcement Trailer
As confirmed in the announcement trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation that aired during the Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase, the game is planned to release across consoles during the spring of 2027. This is less than a year away.
The trailer is packed with information about Revelation, including confirmation that Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine will finally be added as playable characters. Fans also received their first up-close look at the Highwind, Cid’s iconic airship. According to the trailer, it appears that players will travel to new locations on the airship, jumping from the deck to parachute to the target location below.
An early look at the combat system seems to indicate that battles will be similar to Rebirth, but players will now have to take down the Planet’s defenders. These massive bosses won’t be anything like previous fights, and are designed to prep the team for their stand-off against end-game threats.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Gets Extended Gameplay Video
In a follow-up to the main announcement trailer, an additional extended gameplay video was also shared on the official Final Fantasy YouTube channel. This trailer gives a deeper dive into the combat mechanics and character combos that will be used in Revelation.
The extended trailer gives more details about travel on the Highwind, including confirmation that players will get to steer the airship while it is in use. This mimics the transportation options that were used in Rebirth, but on a larger scale.
The most exciting details come in the form of breakdowns for Vincent and Cid. Both characters have unique specialties that make them invaluable in the original game. Those same abilities are back, streamlined for modern gameplay. Cid deals powerful, rapid-strike blows with a lance, while Vincent can switch between ranged gunfire with Cerberus or brutal close-range combat as the Galian Beast.
With the crew officially assembled, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is sure to be the epic conclusion fans have been waiting for. While there are still many months to wait until the release window arrives, every moment of that time is a chance to replay previous games and prepare for the ultimate battle.
