No matter how you might feel about Valentine’s Day, the Hallmark holiday is a fantastic excuse to watch a good rom-com. There are plenty of classics to revisit, but U.S. fans of beloved romance novelist Sophie Cousens are about to have an exciting new option to add to their rotation.
Sophie Cousens is best known for her “what if” style rom-coms, which often take on interesting premises as they work to bring two people together. Her novel This Time Next Year looks at two people born on the same day, who’ve secretly almost met dozens of times over the years. One of them is incredibly lucky, and the other, well… isn’t. However much Minnie might think Quinn stole the name – and the good luck- she was meant to have, it’s clear fate just might have bigger plans for this duo.
The book is a phenomenally funny and heartwarming. It was my introduction to Sophie Cousens, and she had me laughing and crying – both requirements for a good read. It cemented her as an auto-buy author for me, and I’m so excited to see a film adaptation on its way so soon!
Stream This Time Next Year in the US for Free
Soon, fans of Sophie Cousens and well-written love stories will be able to enjoy the film adaptation of This Time Next Year. The movie was originally released in the UK in 2023 but hasn’t yet been available for US viewers – until now. The movie will be available for free via the Roku Channel starting on February 10, 2025.
Film adaptations of a good book always feel a little risky, but this time, Sophie Cousens wrote the screenplay herself! The movie stars Sophie Cookson as Minnie Cooper and Lucien Laviscount as Quinn Hamilton, as well as Queen Charlotte herself, Golda Rosheuvel. While the movie itself won’t be available to stream until February 10, you can get a sample of what’s to come from the trailer.
The movie will be a Roku Original here in the States, meaning it will be available exclusively via The Roku Channel. Thankfully, the streaming app is free, so Sophie Cousens fans should be able to access it via their Roku device or a web browser.
If the This Time Next Year movie even comes close to the book, it’s bound to be an excellent way to spend a few hours during the month of love. So mark your calendars for February 10, because we’ve got a date with a rom-com based on a great book.
