Minami Lane Basic Gameplay Overview

In Minami Lane, you take on the role of the invisible manager of a local street. Each level has different objectives for the types of residents you want to attract and keep happy as you build up that area, before moving on to help out with the next.
You will build different shops, green spaces, and housing complexes to design the neighborhood of your residents’ dreams. Depending on who you’re trying to keep happy between the youths, elders, and other potential residents, you’ll tweak the offerings at restaurants and shops to suit their tastes.
The buildings you add to your street will help bring in funds for more upgrades and improvements, but that’s not all – petting the cats that come to visit is another way to earn coins. What’s better than a cozy game where petting the cats isn’t just possible, but actually beneficial to gameplay?
TIP: You can only add one building per day in Minami Lane, so choose your next addition to the neighborhood wisely. It’ll be slow going if you build too many resident homes before you’ve got a way to earn profits.
Can You Use Controllers with Minami Lane on Steam?
Yes, the Steam version of Minami Lane supports Xbox and DualSense controllers. You can use other controllers as well, but the on-screen prompts may show Xbox button controls.
Those who prefer to play without a controller can rest assured, there’s no quick button mashing required here. Minami Lane is also perfectly comfortable to play with a keyboard and mouse.
Is Minami Lane Steam Deck Compatible?
Yes, as of the 1.1 Update, Minami Lane is playable on the Steam Deck.
Is Minami Lane On Nintendo Switch?

Yes, the Nintendo Switch version of Minami Lane launched on August 15, 2024. It is now available from the Nintendo eShop for Switch cozy gamers to enjoy.
Is Minami Lane on Xbox Game Pass?
Yes! As of July 2025, Minami Lane is available as part of the Game Pass subscription. It’s ffered via the Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass tiers and can be played on PC, console, or via Cloud Gaming.
Is Minami Lane Safe for Kids?
With its cute and cozy art style, you might be wondering if Minami Lane is a good game for the kiddos.
The game doesn’t contain any adult themes that would be inappropriate for young ones, but it is a strategy game that requires a bit of thinking in order to meet the objectives. For that reason, it’s probably best suited to older kids or as a fun game to play together as a family.
What Languages Are Available in Minami Lane?
The developers behind Minami Lane have worked to localize the game to seven different languages. The available languages you can use when playing the game via Steam are:
- English
- French
- German
- Spanish
- Portuguese (Brazilian)
- Japanese
- Simplified Chinese
According to the Nintendo eShop, the Switch version of the game does not appear to support the German or Spanish language versions of the game at this time.
How Long is Minami Lane?

The developers estimate that Minami Lane offers around 2-4 hours of gameplay. My first full playthrough of Minami Lane took around 3 hours in total to complete all levels, so that estimate seems about right.
The game is designed to be short and sweet, with plenty of replayability when you’re ready to re-enter its cute and cozy world.
Does Minami Lane Have Multiplayer?
No, Minami Lane is designed as a cozy single-player experience. The developers have no plans to make it into a multiplayer game.
Getting Started with Minami Lane
When you play Minami Lane for the first time, you’ll play through a total of five missions in order from the easiest to the most challenging.
Once you’ve completed all five missions, you’ll get the option to revisit any of the missions or you can play in sandbox mode once you’ve completed the full game. Each mission has specific objectives you’ll need to achieve before you can move on to the next.
To begin, you’ll work through the first mission, Bobalicious. This mission will also teach you the basics of the game, including how to place new shops and buildings.
You’ll also cover the basics for earning money to improve your street – through selling items at shops, picking up trash, and finding the daily Tanuki. Cats and messengers also earn cash, but they won’t come into play until later in the game.
How to Achieve All Objectives for Mission 1: Bobalicious

When starting on this level, you’ll have access to only a few buildings. As a default, your street will have one modern house. I recommend building a Ramen Shop as your next building so you have an immediate source of cash flow to help you achieve the other objectives.
Have 15 Villagers
Achieving this objective in Minami Lane is pretty straightforward – in order to have more people living on your street, you’ll need to build more places for them to live!
You start Mission 1 with five villagers, and each new dwelling adds five more, so you’ll need to earn enough money to build two more houses for residents to live in. Each Modern House costs $100, so be sure to price your Ramen Shop accordingly and click on all the trash you see to get there quickly.
Have 75% Satisfaction

In Minami Lane, satisfaction is a combination of beauty and what each shop has to offer your residents. You’ll eventually get bonus satisfaction from the cats that frequent the area, but that won’t be available in Mission 1.
To increase beauty satisfaction, be sure to build at least one park. Parks are the easiest way to increase beauty at this stage in the game, which you’ll need to increase satisfaction.
You also want to tailor your Ramen Shop offerings to suit your villagers. They will give you little thought bubbles when they leave the shop, letting you know what they think about the recipes and prices. Tweak your shop at the end of the day to get the recipe just right and hit the sweet spot of a price that earns you money while keeping your customers satisfied. Once you hit the perfect recipe, your villagers’ satisfaction will be 75% in no time.
Build a Boba Cafe

In order to build the Boba Cafe and complete Mission 1, you need to satisfy the requirements for this building type.
Building a Boba Cafe requires $200. In addition to the funds, you’ll need to have at least two modern houses so your street attracts 10 villagers. Finally, you will need to hit at least 60% satisfaction before you can treat your Minami Lane neighborhood to boba.
In my experience, the Boba Cafe is usually the last objective you’ll complete, since getting the required villagers and satisfaction gets you so close to the mission objectives.
Once you’ve checked all three boxes, you’ll be prompted to move along to Mission 2. If you’re not quite done with your street, you can also opt to keep playing and stay here a little longer.
How to Achieve All Objectives for Mission 2: Youth & Elderly

In the second Mission, your goal is to help this elderly street attract more young people to liven things up!
Have More Youths Than Elders
The main way to achieve this objective in Minami Lane is to build modern houses. Youths primarily live in these dwellings, so building two of them will get you more youths than elders.
This level also introduces upgrades, so you could also build one and then upgrade it to add five more Youths to the street. Modern Houses are $100 each, while the upgrade costs $300, so choose wisely based on your budget.

You’ll also need to make sure your street has things that the youths enjoy, however. That brings us to our second objective.
Achieve 80% Satisfaction
When you start, you’ll have a Ramen Shop that’s perfectly tailored to the elders who live there – build a second one and tweak the recipe to your Youth villagers.
This Mission also gives you the ability to upgrade buildings, which you can use to increase your street’s beauty or the profits of your shops. For Mission 2 I recommend beautifying the housing buildings and boosting the stars (profitability) for your shops. That way you can boost satisfaction and profit, which plays a part in the third and final main objective for Mission 2.
Earn $250 A Day
Getting to $250 a day in Minami Lane will require some careful balance – raise the prices of your Ramen Shops as high as their target customers will allow before satisfaction drops. You should also upgrade both the Youth and Elder Ramen Shops to attract more customers.
Finally, try adding some variety by building a Bookshop. This new building type replaces the Boba Shop for now, and you’ll be able to pick three titles to share with your villagers. Mix and match to find two book types that suit both the Elders and Youths with the highest prices both will tolerate, and you’ll be able to earn $250 a day.
How to Achieve All Objectives for Mission 3: Purrfect Street

The third mission is the most important, in my opinion – it’s when you’ll unlock cats, which you can pet from here on out! In this round, your goal is to beautify the street enough that cats will be drawn to it.
Finish With 6 Buildings or Less
This level adds the ability to recycle old buildings in Minami Lane, which you can use to your advantage to keep the street lean. The Service Center building will be one of the starting structures for this mission, so be sure to click on it and purchase the Recycling Service for $75 right away.
This neighborhood starts with a horrifying number of identical shopping marts, so recycle at least three of them to make space for more beautiful and useful buildings. I suggest keeping two initially so you can draw in profits and tweak the offerings to suit your Youths and Elders.
You will want to prioritize making space for two more housing buildings, as you’ll need at least 15 villagers before you can achieve the Build a Florst objective.
Possessing the recycling center, three houses, and two marts will put you right at 6 buildings. My recommendation is to hang on to the mart for a bit to make profits and beautify your existing buildings, then recycle it in favor of the Florist once you can. That gets you a total of 6 buildings to hit this objective.
Build a Florist

To build a Florist in Minami Lane, you’ll need a minimum of 15 villagers. You’ll also have to hit 70% Satisfaction and have $300 on hand.
To get here, build and beautify two housing spaces and optimize your marts to make a profit. By keeping your villagers happy with their space and the offerings at the stores, you’ll achieve the 70% satisfaction you need.
The Florist will help you get the beauty you need to attract cats for your final objective.
TIP: After you build the Florist, you don’t need to keep space for 15 villagers anymore. This Mission requires no minimum number of villagers, so you can also remove dwellings and add in more beautification buildings like the Onsen.
Attract 4 Cats Per Day
You will need to reach a high beauty satisfaction rating in order to attract 4 cats a day in Minami Lane. I recommend doing beauty upgrades on your existing buildings and making sure to have both The Florist and The Onsen to achieve the beauty rating you need.
It helps if you reduce the number of villagers at this stage by removing a building in favor of a more beauty-focused building. Once your beauty score is high enough, you’ll see four cats in a day and will win the mission.
TIP: Pet the cats! Each cat you pet earns you some additional cash to spend on upgrades and buildings, and it’ll also help you achieve the “Pet 20 Cats” optional objective for this round.
How to Achieve All Objectives for Mission 4: Sing Along Festival

Your toughest level yet will require perfecting recipes and karaoke menus for both Youths and Elders – no easy feat! Thankfully this mission unlocks the Shop Investigator, who will make it much easier to optimize your offerings.
Hire a Shop Investigator
You’ll need to build the Service Center in Minami Lane before you can hire a Shop Investigator. This requires 15 total villagers and a whopping $400, but you’ll want to do it as early as you can to make the other two objectives easier.
I suggest building a dwelling for elders & increasing the housing size for the already-existing modern house to hit your 15 villagers. Then, do your best to perfect your two ramen recipes to earn the cash you need to build a service center.
Once you build the center, you will need another $200 to actually hire your Shop Investigator.
TIP: Wave hello to (click on) the bike messengers that ride through to earn a few extra coins each day.
Have Two 10/10 Ramen Recipes
This one seems easy until you remember that Mission 4 adds random occurrences to the game. Before each day, you’ll get a newspaper headline that may impact the day ahead – and this can include Elders or Youths totally changing their favorite Ramen Recipe!

Once you Hire a Shop Investigator, this gets easier, as they’ll automatically save all of the comments about each building and provide helpful icons to remind you which type of customers like each item on the menu.
Have Two 10/10 Karaoke Song Selections
There are a handful of song offerings to choose between at the karaoke bar, and Youths and Elders once again have different preferences. It’s easiest to have a Shop Investigator for this tricky bit of trial and error, as the comments won’t always help you narrow in on which tracks are preferred by each villager.
Once you have a Shop Investigator, use what you learn from your first Karaoke Bar to quickly and easily perfect the song selections for your second so you’ll have the ideal spot for both Youths and Elders.
How to Achieve All Objectives for Mission 5: Blissful Harmony

The last mission looks deceptively simple at first – simply attract four of the nature-loving Yokai to your street. However, doing this is no easy task, and Mission 5 will take some careful planning and dedication to achieve.
Bring 4 Yokai Into Your Neighborhood
To build a Yokai tree for your new residents to live in, you’ll need $1000 and 100% satisfaction.

To achieve this, you’ll need to bring everything you’ve learned from prior missions in Minami Lane into play. Beautify your street to achieve that beauty bonus to satisfaction and optimize your recipes and prices to keep your residents happy.
It can be tempting to try and focus on only Youths or Elders to make this easier, but the game tends to throw a few curveballs your way. In my experience, it’s best to go with one restaurant and one shop of each type that you can perfectly curate to both Youths and Elders. That way, satisfaction is high for all residents and you’ll achieve 100% quicker.
Once you build a Yokai tree, you’ve got more money to earn – each upgrade to add space for another Yokai resident will cost $500 more. To get to four Yokai, you’ll need to buy this upgrade twice.
Make sure you’re charging enough at your shops, especially the ones that cater to Elders who like higher prices. Once you add the Yokai to your neighborhood, they’re easy to please, with no special requests, unlike their human counterparts. They’ll add to your funds and resident count without making demands of you as their street overlord.
Once you have 4 Yokai residents in your Yokai tree, you’ll play through one more day before winning the mission. At that point, you’ve played through all of Minami Lane. You’ll have the option to keep going if you want to continue managing your street, or you can say goodbye and watch the credits roll.
