Death is exactly who you think he is in Moonlight Peaks, the literal Grim Reaper, currently on vacation and trying, genuinely, to unwind. He belongs to no family, tends the local cemetery out of habit more than obligation, and has a dry, self-aware sense of humor about the whole “collecting souls” thing. He’s also, somewhat famously, in the middle of building a whole vacation wardrobe.
Death is a big fan of hats, jackets, and – genuinely – trash, an actual collection of bottles, cans, and old shoes shows up right alongside his Loved gifts. In this guide, we’ll break down all of Death’s gift preferences, his heart events, and the best answers for each encounter.

All Heart Events For Death in Moonlight Peaks
Death is usually easy to find near the cemetery, or wherever he’s decided to relax that night. Below are Death’s heart events and the conversations you can have with him. We have bolded the best answers for each interaction during events.
One-Heart Event
Partyman
To start Death’s first heart event, find him at the bar any time after reaching your first heart with him. He’s on vacation from his usual duties and holding court, drinks slipping straight through his bones onto the floor, cheerfully explaining that his “business” is thriving even if it’s never once brought him something mortals call joy.
Dialogue Choices:
- Ask directly rather than tiptoeing around it,
- “Uh, what business is that, exactly?” (“I am not just a keeper of souls, I am the final chapter of every story. I am in the business of death.” He admits it’s never brought him the “joy” mortals seek.)
- “That business by the pier?” (“No, I’m afraid that boat business never really took off.” Same admission follows.)
Two-Heart Event
Comfort Food
Death’s borrowed Mina’s kitchen to try his hand at cooking, a mortal custom he finds fascinating, and has produced something thoroughly incinerated, which he describes with total sincerity as his own creative personal touch.
Dialogue Choices:
- React to the offer of “ashes,”
- “Maybe I can show you how to cook something… less burnt.” (“Perhaps I did get carried away with the heat… the fire was mesmerizing. I suppose ‘less burnt’ is a worthy goal for next time.”)
- “Wow, that’s… creative!” (“Creative, yes! I aimed for something unique.”)
Three-Heart Event
A New Look
Death is experimenting with a new wardrobe out of curiosity about mortal variety, wanting something that reads as mysterious but approachable, with his theatrical friend Llemi swooping in mid-decision to tease him about dressing for love.
Dialogue Choices:
- Respond to his fashion crisis,
- “I can help you pick something out.” (“Very well. I want something that says… mysterious but also… approachable.”)
- “Great idea!” (“You think so? Fascinating. Perhaps you could guide me?”)
Four-Heart Event
Please Don’t Stop the Music
Death has discovered music and wants a record player of his own so he can listen whenever he pleases, tracing the whole obsession back to a gondola ride with a couple whose names he can no longer quite remember.
Dialogue Choices:
- Respond to his new obsession,
- “I’d be happy to help you find one!” (“Ah, how kind! I shall look forward to it.” He starts practicing his dancing in the meantime, bones clacking distractingly the whole time.)
- “Why don’t you just buy one?” (“I tried buying one myself, but a rather scruffy young person offered me a shirt instead.”)
Five-Heart Event
Death of a Party
The whole town throws Death his first ever party, hosted by Jada at the museum, and it’s genuinely moving watching centuries of funerals give way to a single candle on a cake and an invitation to dance. He tells you, without his usual detachment, that he loves you.
Dialogue Choices:
- When he’s left speechless by the surprise,
- “We thought you deserved one of your own!” (“I seem to be at a loss for words!”)
- “Oh, Endearment!”
Six-Heart Event
Call Me by My Name
Death asks you to give him a new name, something more personal than Death, the End, or the Grim Reaper, all titles that never carried the warmth he’s been looking for since falling for you. He’s careful to leave the choice fully yours, offering that he’s happy to stay Death if nothing better comes to mind.
Dialogue Choices:
- Respond to the request,
- “I’d be honored to name you!” (“Let’s commence… I am already starting to like it. It feels like a piece of the puzzle falling into place.”)
- “Hmmm. I’d like to change it.”
How to get married in Moonlight Peaks
Once you hit eight hearts with someone, a proposal option shows up at the end of a date.
If the other person says yes, you’ll be able to set the wedding date on the spot, which then logs itself on your calendar. You can swing by Third Eye Threads the next day for white wedding attire if you want to dress up, though the game won’t force you into it.
On the day itself, the ceremony kicks off the moment you wake up.
Marrying locks you into monogamy. Anyone else you were dating drops to a heartbroken “hurt” status capped at four hearts, and your new spouse gets two more hearts to earn with you.
How to break up in Moonlight Peaks
To break up or get a divorce, you’ll need to speak to Llemi.
When you’re ready, head to his place in the Pink Grove (you’ll need Luna Bay unlocked first) and tell him you want out. Sleep through the night and your ex is back to being a regular friend by morning.
If you’re hoping to remarry after, budget the time: you’re starting that climb back to eight hearts from scratch.
After reaching Heart Level three in Moonlight Peaks, you will be able to hug Death, and starting from Heart Level Four, you can ask him out on dates, which also enables kissing. It is possible to lose hearts by doing badly on dates or giving hated presents. However, if you don’t give him Charcoal, you should be headed in the right direction.
Still here? Good.
