While there’s no romance in Garden Witch Life, your relationships with NPCs do matter. Forging strong friendships on Moonflower Island is the key to unlocking certain recipes and growing your potential.
If you’re curious about how friendship works in Garden Witch Life, we’ve got you covered. Our guide will look at how to build friendships and which gifts you should give to each new friend to foster a stronger connection.

How Friendship Works in Garden Witch Life
The primary way to build your friendship with NPCs is through gifting. NPCs don’t really have daily conversations you can engage in, and their dialogue can get a bit repetitive if you try to chat. Instead, find out what they like and give them a gift once per day to increase your friendship level.
Increasing friendship with merchants often adds more items to their shop. That’s especially true for Lily, the beekeeper slash workworker. You’ll need to gain her trust before you can learn to craft an Apiary and other homes for your new animal friends.
To view your current friendship level with a character, open up your journal. Click on the journal tab, then the “characters” entry. Select the specific person you’re looking for, and you’ll see a bar that shows your current friendship level.

TIP: The progress line indicated here isn’t how long you have to go to the next friendship level. It shows how much total friendship you can build with them in the game, and how much you’ve progressed towards the full goal.
You’ll also see some notes that may help you figure out what that character would like to get as a gift. For instance, we know Tin likes hanging out in her Lavender garden. Might she enjoy Lavender as a gift? (Yes, she would!)
Garden Witch Life Gifting Guide
Gifting can be a little intimidating in Garden Witch Life because giving someone a gift they really dislike can actually harm your friendship! You can lose points for giving Gemmi, well, basically anything.
If you’re an NPC people pleaser who’d prefer to know which gifts to give, here’s a guide to help!
Aurel

Aurel owns the General Store, and you can typically find them there during open hours. You’ll earn 10 friendship points for gifting Aurel basically any flower, but here are some specific gifting tips.

How can you increase your mentality? What do you have to do?
Hi! Increasing mental energy is something that comes a little later in the gameplay. You can raise it by using the broom, once you unlock that recipe and craft it Later friendship quests with NPCs can increase mental energy, too.
How long does it take to improve your mentality? I’m already in my second year in this game and I often use the broom and friendship but ultimately nothing has changed, why is that?
If you gift Tin fairy dust you will get 100 points, Aurel a ball of yarn (rude sells orange balls) it will give you 100 points. That’s all I have figured out so far. Very easy to get level 10 friendship with them+ Hope this helps someone!
