No Fuzzball! is a giggle-worthy picture book for parents and toddlers alike. The story is told from the point of view of Fuzzball, the family cat, as she reigns over her queendom. She talks about her family and the mischief she, like most cats, gets into in her daily life.
This story is great fun to read with your toddler, as they excitedly (and often loudly) read with you as the family cries “No Fuzzball!” whenever they catch this kitty queen amid her chaos. The art is adorable and kids love pointing out where Fuzzball is on each page. For those who love No Fuzzball!, the author, Isabella Kung, has written the equally adorable sequel, No Snowball!

While geared at a bit of an older audience than most picture books on this list, Dewey: There’s a Cat in the Library! is an adorable read for any family and a must-have for the animal-loving kids in your life. It is a great story with beautiful illustrations and an easy flow that captures the attention of parents and children alike.
This book is based on the beloved true story of Dewey Readmore Books, the library cat of the Spencer, Iowa Public Library. It is an excellent introduction to more non-fiction titles. Like with No Fuzzball! above, this book is also told from the perspective of the titular cat and follows Dewey’s hijinks from kittenhood to adulthood. It is an ode to libraries, as well as a lovely memorial to this friendly feline.

As our final kitty-focused book on this list, Bathe the Cat is one of my favorite picture books of all time. While geared at a young audience, it is full of silliness and family shenanigans as the wonderfully diverse cast of characters races to complete the family chores before Grandma comes to visit.
Dad lists out of the family chores in the iconic refrigerator letter magnets that many of us had on our own childhood fridges, but things don’t go as planned when the family cat switches up the chores throughout the book. Though starting with normal chores such as “sweeping the floors”, “scrubbing the dishes”, and the titular “bathing the cat”, our furry friend creates new lists with off-the-wall chores like “sweeping the baby,” “feeding the floor,” and, “feeding the lawnmower.”
For parents and adults who loved the nonsense of Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat or Herman Parish’s Amelia Bedelia, this is an excellent, modern read that encompasses those same goofy giggles as those nostalgic books. Kids will enjoy pointing to the letters they know or making silly sounds as you turn the pages and the cat mixes up the letters.

As those who spend time with small children know, little kids have big feelings but do not always know how to express them. This picture book, with pages closer in texture to that of a board book than a standard picture book, is a fantastic way of describing feelings of the heart with more tangible explanations of those big emotions your little one might not have words for.
The line art style and brightly colored illustrations are sure to keep any toddler’s attention as they learn how to feel so many of their feelings and learn to process and express those big emotions. This book is also part of the Growing Hearts series by author, Jo Witek, which can help each parent or guardian to raise more emotionally intelligent kids.

Like many picture books for the youngest of kids, Never Touch a Dragon! is a board book filled with silicon, tactile elements on each page. The funny rhymes and bright colors, combined with those tactile elements are fantastic to keep the youngest readers entertained.
If dragons aren’t your thing, there are so many versions of this Never Touch series to entice children of all interests and abilities, so be sure to check out all the different variations for your little ones.

If your toddlers are as obsessed with all things on wheels, as so many of the littles in my life, this New York Times Bestseller is the first in a series of picture books that is just the right pick for you. With beautiful details and vibrant colors, the rhythm and rhyme of the text will lead you and your child through the construction site as each of the different machines readies itself to turn in for the night.
This will be a read that stays in your toddler’s bedtime rotation for years to come as the story is simple enough for younger readers, but complex enough to keep those kiddos exiting their toddler years engaged with each read.
