A Full Keyboard in Your Back Pocket
When I first opened the ProtoArc case, I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. Folded in thirds, this full-sized keyboard is only five inches long and a few centimeters thick. The hinges are carefully protected by sliding cases when nestled into the bag, ensuring the components won’t get damaged.
Once unfolded, users have an entire, 100% keyboard at their disposal. While the utility keys aren’t in a traditional format, every function needed to do work is available. The keys are full-sized, and the caps have the same quality feel as a standard, membrane keyboard.
The keys are shallow, but when in use, they respond perfectly, sensitive enough to please mechanical and membrane keyboard users alike.
The keyboard can connect to a phone or tablet via Bluetooth and can be toggled to a PC with a USB wireless adapter. This makes for easy use on any device at any time.
A Teeny Mouse To Go With A Full Keyboard
While the ProtoArc keyboard is full-sized, the mouse is a much smaller portable companion. Measuring about four inches in length, it slides in right next to the folded keyboard when in the case.
The mouse is sensitive, with good buttons and rubber tracks on the bottom to make it compatible with any surface. However, it is extremely small. Those with large hands and long fingers will find it doesn’t quite fit into the palm, and this may cause cramping or discomfort while working.
I am also not the biggest fan of the roller on this mouse. It is a stylish, metal dial, but it feels a bit stiff when used, and doesn’t respond quite as readily as the keyboard it pairs with.
A USB Hub and Wall Port Put The Finishing Touches On A Portable Home Office
What really makes the ProtoArc foldable mouse and keyboard shine are the accessories that come in the case. The USB-C Hub and multi-functional wall port allow users to hook their tablets, phones, or Chromebooks to a power outlet while in use, all while providing cable management.
I was able to use the setup with my Samsung Z Fold5, plugging the expanded tablet phone in while on the tablet prop. It then could charge while I typed notes or worked on articles without fear of draining my battery.
The wall port in particular is handy, as so many tablet and phone chargers are now USB-C to USB-C. The wall port offers two USB-C slots, ensuring access to power while working.
