Solstice Warriors get to unwrap Dawn of Equinox, a hefty free update that lets us take Sea of Stars to the next level.
The team behind Sea of Stars, Sabotage Studio, dropped this free update as a thank you for the fans’ undying love of the base game.
Dawn of Equinox invites you to pick up Sea of Stars copy and this time, grab a friend! But it’s also way more than just co-op. Here’s what’s new in your favorite retro-inspired world.

What’s New in Sea of Stars: Dawn of Equinox?

We’ve highlighted some of biggest and most exciting additions, but you can read the full patch notes to get every detail on the update.
Co-Op
The entire Sea of Stars story is now playable by up to three players. Round up your friends to join you in kicking magical monster butt across every turn, every cutscene, and every puzzle.
The Timed Hits still work, but this time you’ve got to work with the rest of the team to deal that extra damage.
New Combat Features
- Mystery Locks: Brand-new locks on enemy spells mean no more autopilot fights. Instead, you’ll have to experiment to reveal and break spells.
- Combo Points Redefined: Points now carry over after battles, giving you fresh strategic options (and making the combat nerds very, very happy).
- “Reveal” Skill: Now some skills reveal enemy weaknesses.
A Revamped Prologue and Bonus Cinematic
You’ll kick off as the young versions of the heroes, jumping right into their childhood training days without those “Was that a flashback?” moments.
Plus, a new cutscene to add depth to a certain key moment in the main story.
New Relics and Speedrunner Mode:
If you’ve got a need for speed, activate a new relic for a suite of helpful features to beat your best times or set new world records.
You can also now pick from three difficulty options at the start. These aren’t just “easy, medium, hard” – they’re full-on presets using Relics, with some new ones added in.
The Dawn of Equinox DLC comes in preparation for Sea of Stars‘ Throes of the Watchmaker expansion, which is set to release in Spring of 2025.
If you’re into indie games like Sea of Stars, why not try out some of 2024’s indie darlings, like Dungeons of Hinterberg and Animal Well?
