The Street Fighter franchise has seen plenty of unexpected crossovers, and now a new rumor hints that Tifa Lockhart of Final Fantasy VII fame could be strapping up her gloves for a round or two in Street Fighter 6. Ever since the game first came out in 2023, Capcom has been building on Street Fighter 6‘s roster of world warriors through DLC, with Street Fighter 3 hero and pro wrestler Alex Winger being the most recent addition.
Sometime later this spring, Ingrid will join the cast of Street Fighter 6, marking her return as a playable character in the mainline series after being featured in Street Fighter Alpha 3‘s PlayStation Portable port back in 2006. She will be the final character in the current Year 3 DLC, and there are already plenty of exciting rumors about who will be introduced in Year 4.
Tifa Lockhart Could Be Added To Street Fighter 6 In Year 4
In a since-deleted post on the Gaming Leaks And Rumours subreddit, a user by the handle of RnK_Clan shared some supposed characters being added in the upcoming Street Fighter 6 Year 4 DLC (as reported by WCCTech). The first few names won’t be much of a surprise for longtime fans, featuring the claw-wielding assassin Vega, Final Fight‘s wrestler-turned-mayor Mike Hagar, and Ryu and Ken’s mentor Gouken.

However, the fourth character is one that very few saw coming: Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII and its many sequels and spin-offs. Now, I should repeat that this is just a rumor, and that the Reddit post making this claim has since been taken down. But it should also be noted that RnK_Clan has correctly predicted past Street Fighter 6 DLC characters like Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui – both of which are guest characters from other game franchises as well.
If this Tifa rumor is true, then it won’t be the first time that Avalanche’s resident bartender/field agent has turned up in a fighting game. Way back in the late 90s, Tifa appeared in Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring as a playable character alongside the likes of Cloud, Sephiroth, Vincent, Yuffie, and Zack. Outside of the fighting genre, Tifa has been featured in games like Itadaki Street, Puzzle & Dragons, Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble, and, most notably, the Kingdom Hearts series.
Tifa is one of the most popular characters in Final Fantasy VII, and her martial arts-centric battle style makes her a natural fit for fighting games like Street Fighter. Just ask the many gamers who have been wishing for her to appear in Tekken. Only time will tell if she is indeed coming to Street Fighter 6, though her potential inclusion in the Year 4 DLC could be quite timely, considering the third and final installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is still on the way.
