Digimon Story: Time Stranger is coming to both Nintendo Switch consoles, just a few short months after its initial release on other systems. The third installment in the Digimon Story series of monster-raising, turn-based JRPGs launched back in October 2025 to warm reviews.
The plot of Digimon Story: Time Stranger takes players to a fictional version of Shinjuku City, where the titular Digimon enter from the alternate Digital World of Illiad. The player character is a member of ADAMAS, a covert organization tasked with uncovering the truth behind the Digimon appearances, and it isn’t long before they are whisked through space and time on a journey that could alter the fate of both dimensions.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger Is Coming To Switch And Switch 2 On July 10
Digimon Story: Time Strangers was one of many titles featured during the February Nintendo Direct: Partners Showcase, and it was revealed that the game would be launching on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on July 10, 2026. A post on the official Nintendo of America Twitter account soon followed, which revealed some pre-order bonuses.
In addition to turn-based action, colorful worlds, and various digital monsters to recruit and evolve, players who pick up Digimon Story: Time Stranger on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 will have access to a Quality Mode graphical setting that will render the game in 4K resolution with a 30 fps framerate. Players who pre-order can add Agumon (Black)and Gabumon (Black) to their teams from the start, as well as equip a special alternate costume.
The previous two Digimon Story games, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory, were released on the Nintendo Switch in the fall of 2019, but gamers won’t need to play them to enjoy Digimon Story: Time Stranger. That being said, I would recommend anyone interested in either the larger Digimon franchise or turn-based JRPGs as a whole to try them out, especially those who were underwhelmed with Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
These fans won’t have to wait too much longer to experience Digimon Story: Time Stranger on either Nintendo Switch console, as it is coming this July.
