Whimel Academy Basic Gameplay Overview

In Whimel Academy, your goal is to balance your studies with work, play, and making connections with your classmates. It is a time management style game, where you pick which activities to dedicate time to so you can develop your skills, earn spending money, and socialize with your classmates.
Each day, you can take classes, eat to regain your stamina, and participate in various campus activities to increase skills and earn money to spend at the market. You can use the money you earn through various magical jobs to decorate your room, buy new items such as a broomstick, and more.
Whimel Academy is a cozy point-and-click style visual narrative without complicated mechanics or platforming. It’s more like a storybook you can settle into.
What Platforms is Whimel Academy On?

Whimel Academy is currently in Early Access and only available for PC via Steam.
As of now, there are no confirmed plans to bring Whimel Academy to other consoles.
Whimel Academy Early Access Roadmap
Because Whimel Academy is in Early Access, the developers are still working on adding new features and adjustments to the game.
They recently shared the Early Access Roadmap on their Steam page. As of now, future plans for Whimel Academy include improved localization and accessibility settings, adding more decorations and achievements to the game, and general quality of life improvements.
There is no specific timeline for when these updates may come to the game, so stay tuned!
Do Choices Matter in Whimel Academy?
When you’re choosing which classes to devote time to, which stats to improve, and which dialogue options to pick with each of your new friends, you may be wondering – do choices make an impact in Whimel Academy?
The answer is yes!

You can develop friendships and even romances with the different characters you meet, and the dialogue you choose will help uncover their stories. Certain dialogue options are only available when your skills reach certain levels, so your ability to develop these relationships is also impacted by how you spend your time in class and with hobbies.
How you spend your time during the day also impacts your progress at school. Every day, you get a quick snapshot of your progress to see which skills you’ve improved. You’ll also get a report card at the end of each week- so stay on top of your studies!

Even in Early Access, the game has over 30 different possible endings for your story at the academy, including which career you’ll wind up going into and what happens with your friendships and relationships.
I know I’m excited to see which ending I get and look forward to seeing all the different options players uncover!
Character Customization Options in Whimel Academy

Because Whimel Academy is a first-person perspective visual novel, you don’t have an avatar in-game. However, you do get to personalize your character’s identity a bit.
At the start, you can choose the following:
- Your formal/full name
- A nickname
- Your cat’s name & color
- Whether you identify as a witch, wizard, or mage
How to Unlock New Locations at Whimel Academy

When you first begin your studies, you’ll notice you can only click on certain buildings from the campus map. Not to worry – more locations will be unlocked as you play.
The primary way we’ve been able to unlock new locations thus far is through taking classes, with a couple exceptions.

How to Talk to Classmates in Whimel Academy
When you’re exploring the school, you’ll find little icons in certain areas. These represent classmates you can interact with! Each person has a specific icon – click on it to enter into a conversation with them.

From the school map, you can see which buildings currently have classmates hanging out. You’ll see a portrait showing that someone is currently in the Alchemy Tower, Field, etc.

Certain characters prefer to hang out in specific buildings, so you’ll usually find the same person in the LIbrary, Greenhouse, etc.
All Friendship & Romance Options in Whimel Academy
Your notebook is a great source of info, and you can use it to review your current relationship standing with all of your classmates! It also lists their pronouns and a quick bio.
Here is a quick preview of everyone we’ve met so far, so you have a sense of who you can romance during your time at Whimel Academy.
Cyrus

You’ll likely meet Cyrus early on after one of your classes, where he’s trying to escape consequences for a magical mishap. He always has an exciting new idea to pursue and little regard for the rules.
Daisy

Daisy isquite shy and super awkward, but really loves plants. You’ll first meet her in the Greenhouse. She’s one of the characters who’ll call you by your formal name no matter what at first.
Ida

Ida is incredibly friendly and cheerful and divides her time between the Dining Hall and Forge. She has a sentient hammer friend who’s been in her family for generations.
Lumi

Lumi is probably the most mysterious of your classmates, so it’s no surprise you first encounter them in the Astronomy Tower. This mystical soul likes to spend time doing nothing and often makes vague, grandiose statements.
Theo

First met in the library, Theo is a bookish classmate in constant pursuit of knowledge. He’s calm and not particularly talkative, but will happily chat about books.
