Coming in as the first new book after the D&D 2024 ruleset was released, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer is already shaping up to completely reimagine the Artificer class for the better, bringing in a ton of new content, adventures, and twists.
It’s been over a month since we last got a new Dungeons & Dragons book to swoon over and add to the ever-growing bookshelf, and it’s been even longer since we got a book dedicated solely to a class (by longer, we mean never!).
Now, Wizards of the Coast is breaking that streak by releasing Eberron: Forge of the Artificer, focusing solely on… You guessed it… the Artificer. This tinkering/spellcasting class is the newest to be added to Dungeons & Dragons, so seeing a new book set to add a variety of new content feels utterly fitting.
What’s in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer?

Well, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer will feature the following:
- The revised Artificer class, for One D&D
- 40 player options, including playable species like the mechanical Warforged
- 4 updated Artificer subclasses
- 1 new subclass – the Cartographer
- 5 revised species
- 18 backgrounds
- 28 feats, including the redesigned Dragonmarks
- 20 new monsters, each inspired by one of three campaign models
- New spells, bastions, and magic items
- 3 distinct, genre-based campaign templates for running thrillers, pulp epics, and noir adventures.
If you own the 2024 D&D Player’s Handbook, you’ll notice the Artificer is missing from the book. This aims to fill that void while also releasing a brand new subclass: the Cartographer.
We don’t know fully what that means yet, but we assume it involves a blend between the Bard’s creativity with the Artificer’s tinkering. Think magical quills, insulting people with strongly-worded letters, and of course, plenty of creative freedom.
The actual backgrounds, feats, monsters, and spells are yet to be revealed, but given it’s an Eberron book, players can expect to see plenty of mechanical additions and focuses on creation, Warforged, and awesome Fallout-style power armor as seen in the trailer.
