If you’re an Apothecary Diaries fan like me, it’s been a good month. Funko Pop finally revealed its first-ever Apothecary Diaries figures, coming in December. The Nintendo Direct surprise confirmed the first console game, coming next year. And of course, Season 3 of the anime started streaming worldwide on October 2nd. But if you live outside Japan, there’s likely been a pretty big question on your mind as we head into peak Maomao and Jinshi season. Is that movie coming out anywhere but Japan, or what? Now, we finally have our answer. And it’s good news!
On October 8th, Crunchyroll finally dropped the news that many Apothecary Diaries fans have been waiting for. The popular anime streaming service is teaming up with Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure to “theaters around the world.” They’ve acquired the distribution rights in North America and worldwide (excluding Asia). As of now, the exact release dates and locations have yet to be confirmed. But at least we know that the movie will not be exclusive to Japan, and better yet, it’s going to be in theaters here in North America! Cue The Apothecary Diaries theme song.
The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure To Get North American Theatrical Debut
The first feature film based on The Apothecary Diaries will release in Japan on December 11th. It features a new original story based on a concept from the series creator, Natsu Hyuuga. And of course, a new story means a new mystery for Maomao and Jinshi to solve. It brings them to a city on the water in Binan-shu, the southern province. Naturally, Maomao is excited to see what kinds of herbs and poisons might call this region home. But she’ll soon find herself embroiled in another mystery to solve, not to mention some slow-burn tension with a certain not-quite-eunuch.
The movie was first announced back in late 2025, and more recently got its first trailer and release date. You can check out the trailer for the movie, which is now confirmed for a worldwide release, below:
It’s likely that the movie will not start airing in other locations until after its premiere in Japan. Just how long we’ll have to wait after it releases in Japan on December 11th remains to be seen. But I, for one, am just excited to know that it’s coming to theaters in North America at all. Now I just have to hope it’ll be a wide enough release that I can go see it somewhere nearby.
Until we know more about the movie’s U.S. release date, we have season 3 to tide us over. The latest cour began streaming on Crunchyroll on October 2nd, with new episodes set to release weekly. The second part of season 3 will arrive in April 2027, which hopefully means we’ll get the movie sometime between the two.
