Publisher No More Robots and developer RageSquid shadow-dropped Descenders Next on Steam and Xbox earlier this week. This marks your best chance at getting in on the next greatest indie sports game, and potentially the only extreme sports game you’ll ever need.
Descenders Next launched under the radar on Monday, July 21, 2025, and it’s slowly picking up steam as more and more players dive in. The original Descenders quickly grew in popularity and became what is still the best extreme mountain biking game on the market. This follow-up aims to go bigger, better, and into places you could only dream of in the first entry.
Descenders Next Launches With Years Of Support Planned From Day One
Descenders was and is still an incredible extreme mountain biking indie game. Since its launch in 2019, the title has received update after update that brought new maps, cosmetics, and more for players to experience and earn.
Descenders Next has only just been shadow dropped, and the developer has even more planned for it. At the time of writing, it’s got snowboarding and downhill mountainboarding for you to dig your teeth into. Two of the most awesome extreme sports that allow you to pull off impressive tricks for points and hurtle down insane heights for adrenaline-filled jumps and landings, provided you can pull them off.
But that’s only the tip of the iceberg. The development team has big ambitions for Decenders Next, intending to add even more extreme ports to it over time. While it’s not an MMO, it’s going to give you that similar feeling of FOMO if you don’t get in on it early and end up seeing update 21 in three years when hoverboarding is added (that is pure speculation, don’t take that as confirmation of any sports being added).

If you can’t quite tell, I’m super excited about this game. It offers procedurally-generated tracks for endless replayability, multiplayer action, and dozens of cosmetics to earn and unlock over time. I don’t know if I’m most excited about picking up every time-limited cosmetic as we get into spooky season and Christmas or just playing a new track daily.
The game has a 10% launch discount on Steam right now, is Steam Deck verified, and might be the most extreme time you can have on a handheld gaming device. I’m sure the Xbox version is fine too. If you’ve been waiting for an indie game to suck up all your attention and never get dull, I don’t think you need to look any further.
