Over the last few weeks, Pokémon TCG Pocket has teased some pretty big changes coming to the game ahead of its 2-year anniversary. Today, we got a more in-depth look at what’s to come with the first new booster pack of the C Series. Dual Fusion arrives October 28th, adding dual-type cards to the game for the first time. But that’s hardly the only shiny new thing headed our way in Pokémon TCG Pocket this month.
On top of unveiling a brand-new trailer for Dual Fusion, DeNA and The Pokémon Company announced the arrival of new Special Packs. These packs are separate from booster packs and draw from a new stamina pool, so that will be interesting to see in action. And in case that isn’t enough, we’re also getting special event missions to celebrate 30 years of the Pokémon TCG. Basically, the end of October is absolutely packed with exciting new cards to collect in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Pokémon TCG Pocket: Dual Fusion Trailer Shows Off Dual-Type Cards
The Deluxe Pack MEGA launch wrapped up the B Series run in Pokémon TCG Pocket. That means it’s time to turn our attention to the C Series. The first expansion in this next series is called Dual Fusion, and it will make its debut on October 29th. We got our first look at some of the cards coming with Dual Fusion in a brand-new trailer, which you can check out below:
This is the first expansion in a while that will feature multiple booster pack designs, with Dual Fusion – Mega Mewtwo X and Dual Fusion – Pikachu included in the set. The trailer showed off several new cards, including Mew ex, Mega Dragonite ex, and new full illustration cards for the Kanto starters’ final evolutions. Of course, the introduction of dual-type cards is the big highlight for this set, and we got a preview of some of those, as well. Mega Greninja ex will be a dual Water- and Dark-type, while Mega Mewtwo X ex will be Fighting and Psychic.
Dual Fusion arrives on Wednesday, October 28th at 9 PM ET. But there’s more to look forward to in the game this week and beyond.
Pika Pika! Missions Serve Up Cute Pikachu Cards
While we’ve still got a week to wait for Dual Fusion, another of today’s newly announced packs is available right now! As of 9 AM ET, the new Pika Pika! Missions are already live in Pokémon TCG Pocket. This event brings in new Pika Pika! Pikachu Packs, which will include a variety of Pikachu cards, including Shiny Pikachu. Each pack contains a total of 3 cards, and they’re primarily rerun cards from Series A1 to the most recent Deluxe Pack MEGA release.
You can earn the new Pikachu Packs by completing a series of login missions. Basically, each day you log into Pokémon TCG Pocket from today until the event ends, you’ll get a Pikachu Pack or a Pikachu-themed accessory. The final, Day 10 mission will reward players with a Pikachu ex that has a design similar to the new Futuristic Rares that debuted in the physical TCG with 30th Celebration.
First Partners Special Pack Arrives on Halloween
Just in case these two announcements aren’t enough, we also got a reminder about the first Special Pack release coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket. The First Partners pack was initially revealed at Worlds in San Francisco. Now, it’s got a release date. Special Pack: First Partners will arrive on October 31st and be available until December 26th. So basically, we’ve got another limited-run pack model along with the Deluxe Packs.
As its name suggests, First Partners will highlight first partner Pokémon, aka starters, from all 9 regions. Each pack will include at least one 1-star card. Unlike typical expansions, these cards will be opened using “special pack stamina” that will recover once per week. Odds that we’ll have plenty of paid opportunities to get more special pack stamina are high. Even so, this could be a fun new way to expand the options for opening packs in the game.
In all, there’s plenty of new content coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket this month. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got my first Pikachu Pack to open.
Still here? Good.
