After years of work, the Wildhearts TCG Kickstarter campaign is finally live. It’s a card game you might not have heard of but is well worth paying attention to for a couple of key reasons.
First and foremost, this is the Series-Zero launch, the initial set, and you can get in on the ground floor of it. You may never get another chance to get your hands on these cards because there’s already a plan for several sets to follow with their own campaigns in the future.
Second, the game is fantastic fun to play. I’ve been part of a creator tournament that’s still running throughouth the campaign, and it’s got brilliant elements and mechanics that make it infinitely replayable. I’m particlularly excited for its rarities and PVE decks, two key features that I think make it stand out above a lot of other TCGs.
Don’t Miss The Start Of A Special Indie TCG
Wildhearts sees you playing against an opponent or PVE opponent deck through four rounds while competing to reach 20 points, or as close to that as possible. To do it, you’ll need to play as much power in each Field as possible every round, and hope the Judge’s Rule Cards don’t screw up your strategies.
It brings elements of of Altered TCG, Lorcana, Magic: The Gathering, and more, but ends up feeling fresh and unique. You have Familiars that are recalled and played each round, creatures that persist, and a focus on generating harmony on the board instead of battling your way to beat the person sitting across the table from you.
The Kickstarter for Series-Zero is the first of many planned Series that you can think of as sets. I love that there’s already a roadmap for more cards and themes from day one because that’s where I see many TCGs from Kickstarter struggle after funding success.
However, there’s so much more to this than the basic cards. There are some truly incredible rarites out there, including a super flashy foil that has white accents standing out from the background, and stunning watercolor alternate art rares.
To be clear, I think all TCGs should be affordable and made to be played. That’s exactly what Wildhearts is, which is why I’m telling you that it’s worth your pledge. This isn’t a game like so many others out there that have become far too expensive to buy or crowded by resellers. Furthermore, the team put in a year of work just to launch with PVE, allowing you to play it even if no one wants to sit down and deal out cards with you.
While I’ve been playing with other creators, I’ve had a blast seeing how you can craft controlling decks that prevent a player from doing anything, or massive Familiars that ensure your victory in any Field. There’s so much space for strategy, deck-crafting, and fun collecting, that it feels like the start of something special that has the potential to last for a very long time.
This is a game I feel like I can play with my kids, and I love that. I want to see them learn the ropes and then go ahead and master it with their own decks.
Right now my daughter I are reorganizing my old Pokémon cards. She loves the art, the descriptions, and putting together fun pages in my binder. Wildhearts has all that and more than what Pokémon TCG had when it initially launched. It’s the best option for an accessible and approachable TCG I’ve seen for ages, and, as I’ve said a few times to you now, not to be missed.
We’re going to keep track of Wildhearts as time goes by, but don’t forget to check out our other TCG coverage as well. Let us know in the comments or on our socials if you’re excited to jump into this one.
