Project Windless was just revealed during PlayStation’s latest State of Play, and it already looks like an ambitious swing for PS5. The newly announced title from Krafton Montréal Studio is a single-player open-world action RPG set in the universe of the Korean fantasy novel series The Bird That Drinks Tears.

Rather than retelling the books, Krafton says Project Windless is set more than a thousand years before the events of the novels, letting your actions shape the course of a kingdom’s early days.

Project Windless Brings Huge Crowds and Minimal Hand-Holding

In the reveal trailer shown at the PlayStation February 2026 State of Play, players got a look at a wild romp of an ARPG. Project Windless depicts a main character with a Rooster design crashing through waves of enemies, delivering monster combos.

Below, we have included the first trailer for the game, which showcases cinematic combat footage.

If the reveal trailer’s scale is any indication, Project Windless wants to feel big, and not just because you’ll be playing as a giant rooster. Krafton says the game’s open world is designed to offer minimal guidance, encouraging players to chart their own course through exploration, alliances, and large-scale conflict.

Project Windless‘ core fantasy is built around playing as a Rekon, a nomadic warrior race of humanoid birds renowned for their speed and strength, although they suffer from a debilitating fear of water. Players will mow through hundreds of enemies in combat that looks like Dynasty Warriors meets Sekiro, backed by crowd tech designed to keep those armies feeling reactive instead of merely decorative.

Project Windless is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, but no release date has been announced. It is likely that more information will be included in showcases later in the year. It isn’t likely that Project Windless will be included in the 2026 or 2027 release schedules
