The Disney-inspired indie shooter Mouse: P.I. For Hire has just been delayed until April. Developer Fumi Games announced this humorous take on the rubberhose cartoon genre of old at the beginning of 2024 – coincidentally, right as the original Mickey Mouse short Steamboat Willie entered the public domain.

While Mouse: P.I. For Hire isn’t directly based on that classic cartoon, it does draw influence from the old theatrical shorts of that era – just like Cuphead before it. Players take the role of Jack Pepper, an anthropomorphic mouse detective that bears a passing resemblance to Disney’s beloved mascot, as he investigates a series of cartoony cases.

Mouse: P.I. Will Now Launch On April 16

Mouse: P.I. was previously set to launch across most modern systems on March 19, 2026, but now Fumi Games and publisher PlaySide Studios have announced that it is being delayed until April 16. In a post on the official Mouse: P.I. For Hire Twitter account, the developers said that they are taking this extra time to polish the game, and that they plan to show off more of Mouse: P.I. in the build-up to its new release date.

This isn’t the first time that Mouse: P.I. has been delayed. At first, the game was set to launch sometime in 2025, but it would eventually be pushed back to the aforementioned March 19. Just like with this latest delay, Fumi explained that this was to allow more time for polishing Mouse: P.I. and to ensure that it would give players “the best possible experience” when it finally does get released.

So far, Mouse: P.I. looks very promising, with a creative mix of 2.5D black-and-white graphics, first-person shooting that utilizes 1930s guns and cartoon-like gadgets and melee weapons, and investigation segments where Jack needs to solve puzzles and find clues to bring him one step closer to solving the case. Gamers will have to wait a little while longer to put on Jack’s stylish trench coat, but hopefully it will be well worth it once April 16 rolls around.
