For my fellow longtime Digimon fans and me, the long-awaited return of the hit Digimon Story was kind of a big deal. When Digimon Story: Time Stranger launched in late 2025, it took over the Steam charts in a way few people outside of the fandom expected. The party-based JRPG had all of the grind of prior Digimon games, plus the enhanced bells and whistles you’d expect for a newer game. As a result, it performed pretty well with fans and critics alike. With a 79 rating on Metacritic and a Very Positive Steam rating, combined with pretty impressive sales, it’s safe to say Time Stranger was a success. That makes it no surprise that Bandai is coming back for more.
During the September 3rd PlayStation State of Play, Bandai Namco unveiled the first major story expansion for Digimon Story: Time Stranger. The new expansion is called A Hero’s Eternal Legacy, and it’s launching for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 in 2027. For those who’ve finished the main story already, this expansion is a great excuse to return to Illiad once again. And don’t worry, we’ll encounter some new faces along the way.
What We Know About Digimon Story: Time Stranger – A Hero’s Eternal Legacy So Far
Aired during the State of Play, the first trailer sets up the basic premise for A Hero’s Eternal Legacy. That includes a first look at our new protagonist, plus a few of the Digimon we’ll meet as we jump back into Illiad. Set three years after the events of the base game, A Hero’s Eternal Legacy brings us to new regions not yet explored. As you might expect, new regions mean new Digimon. In all, the story DLC will add 50 new Digimon to the game when it arrives next year.

Time Stranger has already gotten a few smaller DLCs. However, A Hero’s Eternal Legacy marks the first big story addition since the game was released. Prior DLC mainly added a few new Digimon and side content, without significantly adding story or gameplay. This expansion, by contrast, will give us a new world and narrative to dig into. We don’t yet know exactly how much gameplay A Hero’s Eternal Legacy will add, but it’s definitely going to be more than the prior DLCs. Probably a lot more, from the looks of it. With the base game taking somewhere around 50-60 hours, this should add at least a few more hours of solid Digimon Story content for fans to enjoy.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger – Eternal Legacy is set to release in 2027 across most major platforms. Bandai has not yet confirmed the price. The prior Additional Digimon & Episode packs have been priced at $11.99 each. Given the extra amount of content from this first true expansion, I would expect it to be priced slightly higher.
