Walk up to trees and smash them in your boar form, and then crush the tree trunks to get the logs needed for crafting.
How to Get The Fishing Rod in Tales of Seikyu

To get the fishing rod in Tales of Seikyu, players will need to speak to Yui on the quest “Town Request Board”. This activates on the second morning after starting the game.
She will explain that you can take quests from the request board to help people in town. Accept the quest “Teach a Yokai to Fish” and then go talk to Torleone on the docks. After speaking with Torleone, he will give you a beginner Fishing Rod and teach the player how to catch fish.
NOTE: In the current early access build, fishing seems to be a bit unstable and difficult to manage. It is also costly on stamina.
