A Nintendo Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has officially been confirmed, less than a month after Final Fantasy VII Remake hit the console. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth picks up where its predecessor left off in retelling the story of the original Final Fantasy VII, covering Cloud and company’s journey through the lands outside of Midgar.
Fans had already guessed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would eventually make its way to Nintendo hardware, given how well-received the game was when it launched on PlayStation 5 in February 2024. A PC port was released the following year, and now Nintendo gamers can mark their calendars for the latest installment in the Final Fantasy VII series.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Will Release On Switch 2 On June 3
As revealed during the February 2026 Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to Switch 2 on June 3, 2026. This news was accompanied by a post on the official Nintendo of America Twitter account that featured a brief Final Fantasy VII Rebirth story trailer.
As I mentioned before, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth largely takes place outside the walled-up city of Midgar, and thus adds a massive open world to the RPG gameplay of its predecessor. Players can still challenge enemies in Active Time Battle combat, as well as explore the world around them, participate in sidequests, and even shape the ongoing narrative through interactions with their partymates.
Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s Nintendo Switch 2 release was praised for bringing Square Enix’s epic JRPG to portable hardware without compromising its graphical prowess, even if it still falls prey to battery-draining issues in Handheld mode. Regardless, everyone should get to experience Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in some capacity, especially since it covers some of the original game’s most iconic moments. If you know, you know.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has gained a wealth of high-quality JRPGs in recent months thanks to titles like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Persona 3 Reloaded, and it won’t be long before owners can add 2024’s seminal Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to that ever-growing list. Prepare to venture beyond Midgar this June.
