Onyx is a special gem in Disney Dreamlight Valley. It is the only precious stone that can be found in every ore node, and it is the key ingredient for crafting Night Shards and Pickaxe Polish. Onyx in DDV isn’t particularly difficult to get, but its lack of a specific spawning location can be a frustrating hurdle.
Where to Mine Onyx in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Onyx in DDV can be mined at any ore node in the Valley and DLC expansion worlds. It is a random drop that occurs when mining. While uncommon, players can grind it by spending time going from biome to biome, mining every spawned ore location.
Onyx can also be purchased at Aladdin’s Stall once it is unlocked for 360 Star Coins.
Onyx can be sold for 300 Star Coins, but we recommend holding onto it for crafting.
Onyx Crafting Recipes in DDV
Onyx is used in three different recipes while playing Disney Dreamlight Valley:

While not particularly valuable, Onyx is handy for the crafting of Night Shards, which are needed in numerous quests and are used in a slew of important crafting recipes like Purified Night Shards.
Because Night Shards are typically dug up from glowing dig spots, grinding them can be tedious and frustrating. This makes crafting them a great alternative for those who are looking to make numerous Purified Night Shards.
We wouldn’t recommend purchasing Onyx from Aladdin’s shop unless you are having a hard time finding them or you are in a hurry to complete a quest. Onyx is required for Joy’s quest “Dream On” and Usula’s quest “These Legs Were Made for Walking.” However, because they are more expensive than their sell price, it is a loss to purchase them, especially as they aren’t particularly rare drops.
